Sonja is the founder of Maleny Printmakers.

She is a painter, printmaker, designer and teacher, who lives in Essaouira, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, where she continues her artistic practice, teaches workshops and leads creative tours.

Her initial tertiary studies in Fashion and Textile Design at Sydney College of the Arts, in the 1980’s, developed into establishing creative studio spaces for a range of art disciplines, teaching and exhibitions – first in Manly, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, then in Maleny, Queensland.

She is fascinated by anthropology, archaeology, psychology and spirituality; they inspire her artwork and inform her approach to teaching.

Since moving to Morocco in 2015, Sonja finds the full immersion in another culture, in itself a fusion of Amazigh, African, Arab and European influences, an enlightening experience which has led her to develop a number of creative tours. These journeys are for people who are keen to explore new perspectives for their lives and who enjoy the personal challenge of learning, and the discoveries and inspiration that result.
